Kc Meyer, a senior at Bishop Manogue Catholic High School in Reno, was selected as Nevada's second district winner in the 33rd annual Congressional Art Competition.

This Memorial Day weekend, we enjoy freedom that was purchased with the sacrifice of those who died during service in the U.S. Armed Forces. As Americans reflect on what that sacrifice means to us, I think it is right that we also consider a loss of life that appears to have been wholly unnecessary.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Mark Amodei (NV-2) today issued the following statement in observation of Memorial Day:

“This Memorial Day weekend, we enjoy freedom that was purchased with the sacrifice of those who died during service in the U.S. Armed Forces. As Americans reflect on what that sacrifice means to us, I think it is right that we also consider a loss of life that appears to have been wholly unnecessary.

“The recent allegations that delayed care may have led to patient deaths at several VA facilities across the country are upsetting and disheartening. There is plenty of culpability to go around, starting with the current administration and its predecessors, who are responsible all day, every day for running the VA. However, it needs to be said that Congressional oversight failed our veterans, as well. To those who have served -- in memory of the deceased and in honor of the living -- we owe you an apology.

“When it comes to making good on our promises to veterans, I am grateful for the small successes I have witnessed in the short time I have been here. But clearly, there is much work to be done. The men and women we memorialize on this day did not give their lives so that our veterans could receive such poor treatment. You have earned a much higher standard of oversight for your health care system than has been undertaken to date.”

Congressman Mark Amodei (NV-2) Thursday directed sharp criticism at the Obama administration's "go-it-alone" response to the growing scandal at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

For the second time this Congress, the Naval Air Station (NAS) Fallon Housing and Safety Development Act passed the U.S. House of Representatives today as part of a bill to fund the nation's military – the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 4031, the Department of Veterans Affairs Management Accountability Act of 2014, by a bipartisan vote of 390 to 33.

Today, the Truckee Meadows Flood Risk Management Project cleared a key hurdle when language requested by Congressman Mark Amodei (NV-2) was included in the conference report for H.R. 3080, the Water Resources Reform & Development Act (WRRDA) of 2014, and passed by the full House 412 to 4.

The House Appropriations Committee today approved the fiscal year (FY) 2015 Commerce, Justice, Science (CJS) appropriations bill on a bipartisan voice vote. The bill funds the Department of Commerce, the Department of Justice, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the National Science Foundation (NSF), and other related agencies.
