Academy Nominations
Service Academy Nominations FAQ
Dear Academy Applicant,
Thank you for your interest in seeking a congressional nomination to one of our nation's prestigious United States Service Academies. We appreciate your commitment to serving our country and look forward to reviewing your application.
To be considered for a nomination, please submit a complete application packet containing the following materials:
- Current Photograph – A 2½" x 3½" headshot. Professional attire is recommended.
- Official High School Transcript – Submitted in a sealed envelope or directly from your school.
- Standardized Test Scores – Official ACT and/or SAT score reports.
- Résumé – A summary of your extracurricular activities, leadership experience, employment, volunteer service, athletics, awards, and other notable accomplishments.
- Personal Essay – A statement of 500 words or fewer explaining why you wish to attend a United States Service Academy and pursue military service.
- Letters of Recommendation – A minimum of three letters from individuals who can speak to your character, leadership, academic ability, or potential for military service.
- Academy Acknowledgement Form – Indicating the service academy or academies to which you are applying.
- Academy Application Confirmation – Documentation showing that you have initiated or completed your application through each academy's admissions portal.
- Additional Supporting Materials (Optional) – Any other information you believe would assist the nomination committee in evaluating your application.
Application Deadline
All application materials must be received by Friday, November 6, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. (Pacific Time). Incomplete or late application packets cannot be accepted or considered.
Please note that receiving a congressional nomination is only one component of the admissions process and does not guarantee appointment to a United States Service Academy. Applicants are responsible for completing all admissions requirements established by each academy and should apply directly through the academy's admissions office.
Academy Interview Day
Applicants who submit a complete application by the deadline will be contacted with their scheduled interview time for Academy Interview Day, which is typically held during the first half of November. Nevada's congressional offices coordinate interview scheduling to ensure applicants are interviewed only once. Interview schedules are generally distributed approximately one week after the application deadline.
If you have any questions regarding the nomination process or application requirements, please contact Debbie Balsinger at (775) 686-5760.
Thank you again for your interest in serving our nation. We commend your dedication and wish you every success throughout the nomination and academy admissions process.
