Congressman Mark Amodei (NV-2) today voted for a bill to fund the government through December 15 and to permanently delay and defund the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

Today, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 761, the National Strategic and Critical Minerals Production Act by a bipartisan vote of 246-178.

WASHINGTON, D.C. –Congressman Mark Amodei (NV-2) today issued the following statement regarding the U.S. position with respect to Syria:

“I want to thank the many constituents who shared their views with my office via telephone, letters, email, social media, and in person, regarding the use of U.S. military force in Syria. Both in terms of volume and unanimity, it was unprecedented for the short time I have been in Congress. The country is divided when it comes to many issues, but it is clear Nevadans and their fellow Americans are united in opposition to the Administration’s much-discussed plans to strike Syria.

“The lack of any discernible foreign policy strategy on the part of the Administration is unnerving and embarrassing. The only driving force appears to be their off-the-cuff misstatements, from the President’s ‘a redline for us’ to Secretary Kerry’s ‘unbelievably small, limited kind of effort’ to his musings on the possibility of Assad’s chemical weapons being turned over to ‘the international community’. That these bipolar gaffes are followed by disavowals and then claims that it was the plan all along further underscores the leadership vacuum, which is apparently being filled by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“It is my hope that the latest diplomatic developments take the military option off the table. But in the meantime, the administration’s handling of this and other foreign policy concerns does little to inspire trust and confidence.

“Absent a significant degradation of the current circumstances, I would like to see the priorities for the few remaining weeks of this legislative session concentrate on matters at home, such as the economy, jobs, immigration, and health care.”
