My, what a difference a month makes. Thirty days ago, attempts to delay the Affordable Care Act (ACA) were shouted down, ignored and the subject of veto threats by the White House. Now we are in a pitched battle as to which side has the best idea to delay implementation of the ACA. Only in Washington, D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. –Congressman Mark Amodei (NV-2), a cosponsor of H.R. 3350, the Keep Your Health Plan Act, which today passed the House 261 to 157, released the following statement:

“My, what a difference a month makes. Thirty days ago, attempts to delay the Affordable Care Act (ACA) were shouted down, ignored and the subject of veto threats by the White House. Now we are in a pitched battle as to which side has the best idea to delay implementation of the ACA. Only in Washington, D.C.

“Today, the House took legislative action to honor the promise the President repeatedly made to Americans. In return, the President made yet another promise to bypass Congress and threaten to veto this bipartisan legislative solution. While there is no credibility abundance in this town, the White House has won the Pinocchio sweepstakes for the week.

“In the face of 24,623 Nevadans, pretty much the entire population of Fallon, and nearly five million Americans who received cancellation notices from their insurance carriers due to the ACA, a number predicted to rise significantly, the administration continues to stubbornly go it alone. Worse still, the President’s executive action is expected to further destabilize the health insurance market. Is the solution more administrative grasping at straws? No thank you. There is a reason we are in this mess. It is the ACA.

“Spin, backpedaling, excuses and apologies do nothing for the Nevadans and other Americans who are losing the health care coverage on which they rely. The ACA was drafted and became law along party lines. Its implementation has been a secretive, unilateral mess. The problems the law created for millions of Americans require a bipartisan solution, not another executive overreach.”

“There is no doubt Americans need real health care reform. But we will all continue to suffer and see premiums go up as long as the ACA creates confusion and uncertainty in the marketplace. It is my hope we can address this emergency in a transparent, legislative process that respects all stakeholders. That requires a stop to the present law’s mistakes and a start to the traditional legislative process. Stay tuned.”
