Leading by example: Amodei to return $104,000 in unspent office funds to Treasury

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Mark Amodei (NV-2) today announced he will return approximately $104,000 in unspent office funds to the U.S. Treasury to be applied toward deficit reduction. It represents nearly 8 percent of Amodei's budget for 2013. This is on top of the $167,080 cut to his budgetfrom the sequester and other changes. Amodei last year returned $172,143.52 to the Treasury. Since his election in September 2011, Amodei has returned approximately $370,000.

"In the face of a $17.3 trillion federal debt, I think it is a sign of basic respect to Nevadans and Americans to run a fiscally conservative office while offering the greatest possible service to my constituents at the lowest possible cost to taxpayers," said Amodei.

Amodei has supported provisions to cut his personal office's operating budget by 11.4percent. He voted in favor of extending a pay freeze for Members of Congress and federal employees, and eliminated two vacant staff positions, one in his Washington, D.C. office and one in his Reno Office. Amodei supports and has voted for a Balanced Budget Amendment.
