WASHINGTON, D.C. –Congressman Mark Amodei (NV-2) today voted in favor of H.R. 2009, Keep the IRS Off Your Health Care Act, which would prevent the Internal Revenue Service from enforcing or implementing any component of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as ObamaCare. The bill passed the House 232 to 185.

"The White House has shown itself to be neither capable nor competent in the implementation of its own health care law,” said Amodei. “Senator Max Baucus of Montana, a senior Democrat who helped write the ACA, said with respect to its roll out, ‘I just see a huge train wreck coming down.’ The IRS has also demonstrated that it is clearly unable to impartially enforce existing law and respect privacy. This bill is intended to stop the IRS from being put in an even a stronger position to target, abuse, and harass Americans.”

The bill would prevent the IRS from collecting more than $500 billion in taxes contained in ObamaCare. It would also block IRS access to sensitive personal health care information to be collected in the Federal Data Services Hub.For these and other activities, the Wall Street Journal reported that the IRS has requested 1,954 full-time equivalent employees to carry out implementation of the ACA.

H.R. 2009 was introduced by Congressman Tom Price, M.D., an orthopedic surgeon with more than 20 years’ experience caring for patients.
