WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Congressman Mark Amodei (NV-2) today voted in favor of a 10-month extension of the payroll tax holiday, emergency federal unemployment benefits, and the Medicare "Doc-fix," among other provisions. He issued the following statement:

"This is a value judgment. Looking ahead to the upcoming Supreme Court decision regarding the Constitutionality of Obamacare, not knowing what will happen, this vote is probably the only opportunity I'll have to provide some relief to seniors and the middle class to offset the looming and crushing consequences of the President's misguided law.

"According to the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR), the average stay on unemployment benefits in Nevada is 44 weeks. This extension provides an additional 29 weeks beyond that.

"I'm disheartened that the off-sets and reforms for these extensions were not taken further and contrary to what some may say, there is nothing mean-spirited about denying additional federal unemployment benefits to drug-users, prison inmates, those ineligible to work in this country, and millionaires."
