Amodei Statement on Upcoming Vote for Speaker

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Mark Amodei (NV-02) released the following statement on the upcoming vote for House speaker.
“As the only Republican voice from Nevada in Washington, DC, I feel an additional responsibility in carrying awareness for Nevada issues. Representative Mike Johnson (R-LA) and I haven’t crossed paths much during our shared time in Congress, and things were moving at such breakneck speed during our Conference meeting last night, I didn’t want to throw blind support behind anyone. I wanted the opportunity to discuss issues important to Nevadans, like the Clark County and Northern Nevada lands bills, Union Pacific issues, and acquiring C-130J planes for the Nevada National Guard, among others, which is why I voted present.
“Shortly after the Conference meeting adjourned, I got a call from Majority Leader Steve Scalise, and we talked through my concerns. Following my discussion with Mr. Scalise, I got a call from Speaker-designate Johnson, and we talked for half an hour about his experience with issues important to Nevada, as well as other national policy priorities. I wanted to make sure he and his staff were aware of issues important to Nevadans, and in turn was given direct access to key staff members who handle these topics. I was able to have a conversation with Mr. Johnson’s Chief of Staff this morning about specific legislation I’m working on and left the conversation pleased.
“I appreciate the timeliness of Mr. Johnson’s response to my questions, and following my discussions with him and his staff, have confidence in his awareness and support of Nevada priorities. I look forward to voting in favor of his nomination on the House floor.”
