Amodei Statement on the Postal Service's Rough Week

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Mark Amodei (NV-02) issued the following statement regarding his continued opposition to the United States Postal Service’s (USPS) decision to transfer some mail processing operations from the Reno Processing and Distribution Center (P&DC) to West Sacramento, California.
“This week hasn’t been a good one for the United States Postal Service (USPS) leadership,” said Congressman Amodei.
“Earlier this week, the Wall Street journal reported about the rough start to USPS’s so-called ‘modernization’ plans (linked here). Unfortunately for USPS bureaucrats, the adage ‘bad news travels fast’ is proving true. The Journal painted an ugly picture of packages piled up on conveyor belts, trucks waiting hours for loading dock space, and bills, checks, and medications not being delivered for weeks on end.
“Last night, the House Appropriations Financial Services and General Government (FSGG) Subcommittee passed an amendment to the FY25 FSGG Appropriations Bill to provide Members of Congress access to USPS facilities without having to jump through hoop after bureaucratic hoop and beg and plead just to provide oversight. You can watch a video of me voicing my support for this amendment linked here.
“This morning, the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) provided me with an update on their audit of the plan to relocate the Reno P&DC to West Sacramento, California. Although the audit is not yet complete, I am encouraged by the work they’ve done to identify USPS’s justification for ordering the closure of the Reno P&DC. Furthermore, I’ve had extensive conversations with the House Committee on Oversight about the best ways Congress can oversee the Postal Service. There is more work to be done, but I believe we are on our way to holding USPS leadership accountable for a decision that should be reversed.”
