*MEDIA ALERT*

RENO, Nev. – Following an immigration roundtable discussion, Congressman Mark Amodei (NV-2) will hold a media availability at 10:00 a.m. PT on Friday, June 21, 2013, at The Chamber, 449 S. Virginia Street, Reno.

Amodei’s office organized the roundtable to bring together local leaders in agriculture, business, education, hospitality, law enforcement, government, and philanthropy to discuss immigration reform from a Northern Nevada perspective.

“Immigration reform and border security are complex, emotional debates, with passionate opinions on all sides,” said Amodei. “Some view the issue as one of humaneness. Many see it in terms of fairness. And still others approach immigration reform on the basis of economics and practicality. We are also a nation of laws with the right to control our borders. While I don’t think any of those views are mutually exclusive, it seems the one thing all sides can agree on is that our immigration system, as presently constituted, is not working.”

Amodei, a member of the House Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Immigration and Border Security, and his staff regularly meet with constituents regarding different aspects of immigration reform, including holding quarterly Hispanic small business owner breakfasts. He also plans to schedule an immigration listening session in the near future, which will be open to public. The roundtable is an opportunity for Amodei to bring together and listen to frank opinions from a wide cross-section of local stakeholders.
