WASHINGTON, D.C.-- Congressman Mark Amodei (NV-2) this week introduced H.R. 6282, the Carlin Economic Self-Determination Act, which would give the City of Carlin the opportunity to purchase nearly 5,000 acres of Bureau of Land Management lands surrounding the city at fair market value for the purpose of multi-use development.

"Carlin's situation is the sort of problem we would like to have more of in Nevada. Thanks to the high-paying jobs created by the mining industry, Carlin needs room for growth, particularly housing," said Amodei. "This bill would enable the local community to determine its own economic future by purchasing parcels, as needed, for smart, sustainable development."

Amodei, who was sent to the House in a special election in September 2011, is a member of the House Natural Resources Committee. H.R. 6282 is the 10th bill he has introduced designed to give Nevada greater local control over its public lands. More than 85 percent of Nevada is controlled by the federal government.
