CARSON CITY, NEV.-- Congressman Mark Amodei (NV-2) today issued the following statement regarding the Topaz Ranch Estates fire:
"There's a saying in the wildland firefighter community that it's better to be good. We're grateful that the work product of the local and out of state personnel and type 2 incident management team speaks for itself. Loss of property is always tragic, but this could have been far worse.
"It's been a tough 180 days, but in the face of the terrain, fuel and weather conditions, this was a win for the good guys.
"It's also worth noting, it was the first time in the fire season sage hen habitat was identified and incorporated into the planning. This will be a huge benefit in 18 months when we're trying to prevent an endangered species listing. Hats off to the wildland firefighters across the board."
