WASHINGTON, D.C. – Nevada’s second district winner of the 33rd Annual Congressional Art Competition, Kc Meyer of Reno, and his father, Kurt, traveled to Washington, D.C. the last week in June for the Congressional Art Competition winners’ reception. Meyer, a recent graduate of Bishop Manogue Catholic High School, was chosen among 20 Northern Nevada high school students as Nevada’s second district winner.
His original artwork, entitled A Sunday Drive,is now on display in the U.S. Capitol alongside winners from across the nation as a part of the year-long An Artistic Discovery exhibition. Meyer and his father participated in a slate of events hosted by the Congressional Institute for the winners of the Congressional Art Competition. Among these events were a slideshow of this year’s winning artwork, a lunch reception, and a keynote address from Ryan Spencer Reed, a professional photojournalist and winner of the 2006 Documentary Photography Project's Distribution Grant.
Congressman Mark Amodei (NV-02) met with Meyer and his father to offer his congratulations.
“For Kc to have his work displayed in the Capitol building for thousands of visitors to see, is no small accomplishment,” said Amodei. “I am proud to see such bright young students coming from our schools in Northern Nevada.”
The Congressional Art Competition is an annual nationwide visual art competition designed to recognize and encourage artistic talent among high school students. Each spring, students submit their original artwork to their representative’s office, where winners are selected by a panel of artists.
