A ceremony has been held in Fallon since 2002. This year's Fallon ceremony begins at the City Hall Courtyard at 11 a.m. U.S. Rep. Mark Amodei is the featured speaker.

The Radiation Compensation Exposure Act (RECA) expires on July 11, 2022. The law, enacted in 1990, provides $50,000 to persons who developed certain cancers and were in parts of Nevada near the Nevada Test Site, now known as the Nevada National Security Site, during nuclear testing. “It’s not a mission accomplished thing,” said Rep. Mark Amodei (R-NV), who is optimistic the law can be extended before it expires. 

The Nevada congressional delegation fielded calls and requests from families and military service members to find and evacuate loved ones, translators and contractors from Afghanistan, where crowds at the airport have become an obstacle for a quick evacuation.

But Rep. Mark Amodei, R-Nev., said the president’s execution of the final withdrawal and the surprise fall of Kabul to Taliban fighters so quickly was an embarrassment to “Gold Star families, allies, veterans, women’s groups, you name it.” Amodei offered a stinging rebuke of the withdrawal.
