Congressman Mark Amodei, representing the 2nd District of Nevada

Dear Friend,

After years of struggling to get ahead, the American people are finally seeing jobs, opportunity, economic growth, safer communities, and a stronger military.

As a direct result of Congress passing a historic tax reform bill last year, unemployment is at a historic low, job openings are at record highs, paychecks are growing, and wages are rising. We have made significant investments to combat the opioid crisis, end human trafficking, target dangerous criminals, and make schools safer. We’ve continued to honor and support our brave men and women in uniform by increasing funding for military training and readiness programs, equipment, and quality-of-life programs for our troops and their families. We’ve also made significant reforms to the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (VA) to provide better care to our veterans.

While there is always more work to be done, I’m pleased to see that our commitment to advancing polices that cut down on burdensome regulations and government-knows-best policies is helping improve people’s lives and making it easier for families to get ahead. I will continue working with my colleagues in the House to bring people back to the center of their government.

Learn more below about how the policies we’ve passed this Congress are specifically helping Americans across the country:

In Case You Missed It: Constituent Success Story

Recently, our Military & Veterans Constituent Service Representative Tracy Spears helped Dee Anthony, a constituent of ours, obtain medals earned by her father for his service in the United States Navy more than 70 years ago. Dee’s father, 3rd Class Machinists Mate Robert C. Parsons, served on the USS Noble during WWII. The primary mission of the USS Noble was transporting troops and equipment to and from combat zones during the war. Sadly, Mr. Parsons passed away in January 2016 at the age of 89.

Realizing her father never received the medals he earned for his service, Dee requested assistance from our office in February 2018. After contacting the National Personnel Record Center (NPRC) on Dee’s behalf, our office received word that same month that the request was sent to the Navy Medals Research Team for approval. Dee’s request was quickly approved and she received her father’s medals on March 30, 2018 – just weeks before he would have turned 92.

On July 5th, my staff and I hosted a ceremony at the Reno office for Dee and representatives from the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) and the Navy League. This medal replacement ceremony was especially significant as it immediately followed the 4th of July, a day to celebrate and recognize the brave men and women of our nation’s military, and a day which also happens to be Dee’s Birthday!

As the father of a Navy veteran, it’s always an honor to help constituents recover important pieces of their family’s history. If you or someone you know needs assistance in recovering replacement medals or memorabilia, I urge you to contact my office for assistance. We’re happy to help.

Visiting Our Nation's Capitol

The interns in my Washington office recently gave a tour of the U.S. Capitol to high school students from: Damonte, Reno, Spanish Springs, North Valley, and the Academy of Arts, Careers, and Technology. These students came to Washington to participate in the Future Business Leaders of America competition. One of the advantages of coordinating a tour through my Washington office is a more personalized experience. Due to the smaller size of our office-led Capitol tours, constituents sometimes have an opportunity to see parts of the Capitol they have never seen before or aren't usually open to larger tour groups. If you or someone you know is planning a visit to Washington this summer - let us show you around!  Visit the tour information page of my website to request a tour of the U.S. Capitol or the White House.
