Whether it's wind, geothermal, hydrogen fuel cell technology, solar energy, or a yet-to-be-discovered energy technology, Nevada has tremendous potential to help provide for America’s future energy needs.
This week, I spoke in Fallon at the Stillwater Facility's Geothermal Solar Project Dedication. I was joined by Governor Brian Sandoval, Dr. Martin Keller, director of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Senator Dean Heller, and the Honorable Matteo Renzi, Prime Minister of Italy.
Stillwater is the world’s first and only hybrid energy plant to combine geothermal, solar thermal and solar photovoltaic technologies. The facility combines 26 megawatts of photovoltaic solar generating capacity – enough to meet the needs of 15,000 American households – with 33 megawatts of baseload geothermal power, demonstrating how a single power plant can deliver renewable peak and baseload power to American homes, businesses, and entire communities.
An all-of-the-above approach to energy will preserve the beauty of Nevada while maximizing our potential sources of renewable energy. While I do believe that Congress must support the production of more traditional sources of energy, I also agree a 'clean' energy sector stimulates economic growth and reduces our dependency on Middle Eastern sources of oil. I will continue to work toward expanding energy production in Nevada which in turn will create jobs and provide new opportunities for American made energy.
In the Second District
This week was a district work period and I was home to hear from you and other constituents. Here are some of the Nevadans I met with:
Carson City Rotary Club
I recently visited the Carson City Rotary Club to give a Washington update, take questions and discuss local concerns. Thanks for having me!
In Case You Missed It:
Financial services and General Government Subcommittee Hearing
Last week, I questioned Securities and Exchange Commission Chair, Mary Jo White, about the Commission’s pending uniform fiduciary standard and its potential conflicts with the Department of Labor’s proposed fiduciary rule. Click here or on the photo above to listen to my remarks and learn more.
Interview with KOLO 8 News Now
As a third generation Nevadan, I am committed to protecting America’s lands for future generations. Local communities should be able to decide for themselves the best uses for public lands to spur economic growth. Last week, I joined KOLO's Peter Zampa to discuss H.R. 2733, the Nevada Native Nations Land Act, my bill that recently advanced in the House and will place more than 70,000 acres of Nevada public land back into local control.
