House Passes Congressman Amodei’s Homeland Security Appropriations Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the House of Representatives considered the Fiscal Year 2025 Homeland Security Appropriations Act. The measure, authored by Homeland Security Subcommittee Chairman Mark Amodei (NV-02), was approved by a bipartisan vote of 212 to 203.
“The FY25 Homeland Security Appropriations Bill prioritizes investments to secure the border and makes appropriate cuts to policies and programs we know don’t work,” said Congressman Amodei. “Treating the border crisis as an issue that can be managed by providing grants to NGOs, funding processing tents, and giving transportation money to non-profits does not work. Don’t believe me? The numbers speak for themselves – we are on track for our third straight year of record border encounters. That’s why this bill invests in tried-and-true methods of securing the border that the men and women in the field are asking for – more agents, detention beds, detection technology, and physical barriers.
“This legislation is a commitment to protecting Americans and the homeland. Through border security, immigration enforcement, cybersecurity, and disaster resilience, we are investing in resources to secure the nation and support our people on the frontline.”
The FY25 Homeland Security Appropriations Act:
- Secures our southern border by:
- Including a record $300 million for border security technology.
- Providing $600 million for construction of the southern border wall.
- Sustaining funding for 22,000 Border Patrol agents.
- Investing $305 million in fentanyl detection equipment at our nation’s ports of entry.
- Executes immigration enforcement by:
- Securing more than $3 billion to fund a detention bed level of 50,000, which is 16,000 above President Biden’s request.
- Providing $822.7 million for ICE to transport and remove migrants who are still in this country despite having final orders of removal.
- Investing $60 million to hire more than 250 new law enforcement officers to investigate transnational criminal activity and keep our communities safe.
- Counters Chinese influence by:
- Providing $335 million for four additional Coast Guard Fast Response Cutters.
- Securing $60 million for a service life extension to enable the Coast Guard to deploy another Medium Endurance Cutter to the Indo-Pacific.
- Investing $4.2 million for increased maritime engagements with allies and partners in the Indo-Pacific.
- Focuses on the core responsibilities of the Department that protects the Homeland by:
- Providing $178 million to speed up computed tomography screening device efforts at the nation’s airports so our traveling public will be safer.
- Investing $834 million for cyber operations, including capacity building and threat hunting.
