Amodei Leads Subcommittee Markup and Passage of FY25 Homeland Security Appropriations Bill

June 4, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Mark Amodei (NV-02), Chairman of the House Appropriations Homeland Security Subcommittee, led the subcommittee markup for the Fiscal Year 2025 Homeland Security Appropriations Bill. This legislation contains record resources to secure our nation, deter illegal immigration, and prevent the flow of drugs into our country.

“The top priority of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is to protect the American people. As members of this subcommittee, our job is to make sure the hardworking men and women of DHS have the resources necessary to keep our country safe and secure. What’s happening at our southern border is dangerous, inhumane, and untenable, and this bill invests in a bottom-up approach to protect our nation and address the ongoing crisis at our southern border.”

In addition to strong investments in border security and immigration enforcement, this legislation addresses the critical needs of every DHS component responsible for protecting the American people, including the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), the U.S. Coast Guard, and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

“It’s imperative we strengthen and maintain America’s national security posture, especially with the ongoing policy disasters of the Biden Administration. In addition to physically securing our homeland, we must make investments in our emergency safeguards,” said Congressman Amodei. “The risk landscape has rapidly changed over the past decade, and we must protect and secure our critical infrastructure from cyber and all-hazard threats. Essential systems like energy grids, water systems, transportation networks, and communication systems are vital for public safety, economic stability, and national security.”

The FY25 Homeland Security Appropriations Bill:

  • Provides $2.9 billion more than the Fiscal Year 2024 funding level.
  • Includes a record $300 million for border security technology.
  • Prioritizes funding for the transportation and connected removal of illegal aliens.
  • Secures more than $3 billion to fund a detention bed level of 50,000, which is 16,000 above President Biden’s request.
  • Invests $305 million in fentanyl detection equipment at our nation’s ports of entry.
  • Allocates $22.7 billion for major disaster response and recovery.
  • Prioritizes $600 million in funding for physical barriers along the southern border.
