Letter - Thanks to Amodei for work on HOPE Act (2016)

I have not forgotten the feelings, sitting in the neurologist's office, hearing that my mother had severe cognitive impairment - devastating feelings of fear, helplessness, despair, overwhelming sadness. We left his office with no information, no plan of care, no contacts or resources. Our experience is very typical for those diagnosed with Alzheimer's or dementia.

On Nov. 3, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) finalized a decision to pay for assessment and care planning services for patients newly diagnosed with Alzheimer's and other dementias, effective in 2017. Patients and their families will now receive a professional care planning consultation with information on available treatments, clinical trials, and local support services thus improving the quality of life for the patient and his/her family. My sincere and heartfelt thanks to Congressman Mark Amodei for his co-sponsorship and unfailing support of the HOPE Act, which resulted in Medicare now providing these services. He has represented Nevadans superbly on this issue.
