Amodei statement on supplemental funding bill for Southwest border

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE              Contact:        Brian Baluta, 202-225-6155

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Following his vote in favor of the supplemental funding bill for Southwest border security, Congressman Mark Amodei released the following statement:

“This vote is about showing compassion to juveniles and helping victimized children. This is about enabling state governors with international borders to secure the sovereignty of their states. And this is about doing what is best for America from immigration and fiscal policy standpoints.

“I do not expect it to make any difference in terms of the Senate Majority engaging Republicans in either chamber. And I do not expect that the White House will break tradition to show any interest in what is contained in this bill.

“At a time when the super majority of Americans are indignant with the administration and Congress’ inability to discuss and solve the legitimate federal issues of the day, the House has gone through the challenging process of attempting to find consensus to move legislation to the Senate.

“I look forward to further discussing with all Nevadans in the coming four weeks what is in the bill and what is not in the bill, as well as the history of border security and immigration policy.

“Regrettably, both parties have achieved a major failure during this administration to deal with immigration and the border in a meaningful way. I will continue to be open and transparent regarding solutions and my thoughts on the issue.

“I’m afraid that until both sides can get over the playground dramatics of screaming amnesty on one hand and xenophobia on the other, that I will need to continue to apologize to all Nevadans for the inability to move this debate from partisan shouting match to thoughtful discussion in Washington, D.C.”
