The Hill's Congress Blog: Pain at the pump is tangible. It hits all Americans every time they fill their gas tanks. What they may not realize though is the same White House policies that make gas prices higher also stymie job-creation.

This is a win for Northern Nevadans both in terms of jobs and service. I appreciate the time that Mark Martinez, USPS manager of the Nevada-Sierra District, spent with me when I met with him in January to express my concerns about the potential closure.

RENO, NEV. -- Congressman Mark Amodei (NV-2) today issued the following statement regarding the announcement that the U.S. Postal Service Reno Processing Center will remain open, preserving nearly 300 jobs. The facility had been a target of the USPS decision to close and consolidate post offices and mail processing facilities across the country.

"This is a win for Northern Nevadans both in terms of jobs and service. I appreciate the time that Mark Martinez, USPS manager of the Nevada-Sierra District, spent with me when I met with him in January to express my concerns about the potential closure.

"I'm pleased that the decision was made based on the facts on the ground. With the Reno Processing Center saved, we will continue to do what we can to protect the rural post offices."

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Congressman Mark Amodei (NV-2) today voted in favor of a 10-month extension of the payroll tax holiday, emergency federal unemployment benefits, and the Medicare "Doc-fix," among other provisions. He issued the following statement:

"This is a value judgment. Looking ahead to the upcoming Supreme Court decision regarding the Constitutionality of Obamacare, not knowing what will happen, this vote is probably the only opportunity I'll have to provide some relief to seniors and the middle class to offset the looming and crushing consequences of the President's misguided law.

"According to the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR), the average stay on unemployment benefits in Nevada is 44 weeks. This extension provides an additional 29 weeks beyond that.

"I'm disheartened that the off-sets and reforms for these extensions were not taken further and contrary to what some may say, there is nothing mean-spirited about denying additional federal unemployment benefits to drug-users, prison inmates, those ineligible to work in this country, and millionaires."
