WASHINGTON, D.C. –Congressman Mark Amodei (NV-2) today pointed to the irresponsibility of so-called pay-fors as the reason he voted against the House and Senate Conference Report for H.R. 22, the Surface Transportation Reauthorization and Reform Act of 2015. He released the following statement:

“To call these pay-fors gimmicky is being kind. At best, they only exist on paper. At worst, they are a misappropriation of funds intended for purposes other than our highways. When the conference report isn’t drawing on moneythat is supposed to back Americans’ bank accounts and expedite air travel, it makes unwise bets like selling oil from the strategic petroleum reserve at a loss and assuming the use of private debt collection agencies will aid the IRS in collecting back taxes.”

Amodei was a cosponsor of the original House version of the transportation bill and is an original cosponsor of H.R.1846, the Bridge to Sustainable Infrastructure Act, which seeks to find a solution to funding our infrastructure needs.
